Sun 28 Jul - Over Atlantic Ocean...

Bye North America, hello Europe...

We were looking forward to our time in the UK but with colds were not thrilled about the flight. Oh well.

Our Swissair flight is scheduled to leave Montreal at 4.55pm meaning that we did not have to rush. The airport is 40 minutes away by bus with a bus stop just around the corner from HI Montreal. All good there.

We had a slow start to the day, ate our leftovers and what we could find for breakfast (hostel provided oatmeal and pancake mix) then slowly packed. We had packing down to a fine art and with some discards everything fit in our bags with space to spare.

A short rest, checked out at 10.30am and then onto our local pharmacy for drugs for our colds. Afterwards we sat quietly in our local Cafe Starbucks Coffee with hot drinks. Neither of us were looking or feeling our best but we ate some cement...

After more tea and resting and we left Cafe Starbucks Coffee and headed across the road for a quick Thai lunch. Nothing special but filling and not too expensive. We also had a window seat and could watch the world go by. Some fun in that.

By 1pm we figured we might as well get our bags and go to P.E. Trudeau International Airport. We knew we would be early and arrived even earlier than expected because the bus trip on the 747 bus (great bus number) was fast.

The other 747 bus bonus was that unbeknownst to us they only took coins for payment of your $9 each fare. We had the exact money, but in notes and coins. The bus driver shrugged his shoulders and we got a free ride.

There were some Swedish people on the airport bus, from Skåne. Mum and Dad and their dreadlocked drop kick looking but besserwisser son who knew everything and had been everywhere. Later, when a dad with a pram entered the bus, we left our spaces to him and moved further back in the bus. Hans doesn't really want to listen to that shite...

The good news in arriving early was that it made check in a breeze - we were the only ones at the Swissair counter and processes completed in no time. The bags were not as heavy as we thought - 18.5kg Hans and 16.5kg for Di.

Security had a long queue but flowed well and by 2pm we were wandering the airport looking for our gate and a nearby bar. Found both.

So, what better way of saying farewell to North America for this time than with a drink in the airport bar. Cheers.

Di the plane spotter!

And then Di went back to her gin and tonic...

We boarded the plane and got excellent seats in the very first row of economy which meant excellent space and legroom. However, the plane left Montreal about 30 minutes late which made the 1 hour connection in Zurich for London a bit... tight. How will it go....?

TO BE CONTINUED...
